Happy (Late) St. Patrick’s Day! Monday, Mar 19 2007
Booze and Life and NOLA 7:46 pm
I was supposed to post this on Saturday. I accidently got drunk and couldn’t do it. Better late than never, right? Here’s a picture of my beautiful baby girl riding in the St. Patrick’s Day parade in St. Bernard Parish.

In knitting news: The St. Pat’s Day shawl got finished on time. It got washed and blocked, and worn out on Saturday. It came home Sunday morning smelling like bar and ick. So, I washed it again and decided to over-dye it while it was wet. It’s re-blocking now. In the garage. Ignore the lawnmower wheels at the top of the picture. It’s the only place I know the cats won’t sleep on it.

And this is why it smelled so funky…
First was SKab:

Then Suplecs:

Then Alabama Thunderpussy:

But before any of that happened, an old friend of ours got married to a very beautiful woman. Congratulations, and may your new family have a lifetime of happiness.

Until next time,

Flying Cabbages Monday, Mar 12 2007
Knitting and Life and NOLA and WIP's 6:26 pm
Am I the only one that thinks throwing big, heavy cabbages from moving parade floats is not a good idea? I’ve held this opinion for a long time now, and yesterday it was totally validated. Before I could get him out of the way, my 5 year old son got whacked in his poor little head by a flying cabbage. A bystander tried to catch it, and he probably did slow down the momentum of the cabbage, but my kiddo still ended up in tears and wanted to leave the parade. So, we did. He seems to be fine, no cognitive damage that I can discern, but he’s got a nice lump on his noggin.
How can you not feel sorry for this sweet little face?

I took great joy in taking a knife to that cabbage this evening. Now I just have to figure out what to do with other seven cabbages we brought home – along with the ten pounds of potatoes, and carrots. Anybody got some recipes they want to share?
On to the knitting:
I wore my get Stitchy! green hat to the parade yesterday. Talk about an ego-fluff. It was a big hit and a friend of mine not-so-subtly reminded me that her birthday is coming up. So, darnit all, I have to go yarn shopping. Man, I hate when that happens (not)!
The green St. Pat’s day shawl is 1.5 repeats from completion. I may just make the deadline.
And even though the weather is warming up nicely, I keep having the urge to make a sweater – for me. I want this one so much.
That’s it for now. Until next time,

FO's and Life and Yarn 11:28 pm
My Clapotis for this month’s -along at get Stitchy is done. You’ll just have to take my word for it. For now. Someone went on a little trip to the Netherlands and took my camera along for the ride. I feel like I’ve lost an appendage.
Actually, that’s a little odd for me to say. I’ve come into the techno-age kicking and screaming. For years, all I could do with a computer was turn it on, play solitaire, and eventually Tetris. I refused to purchase anything online for a very long time. It took even longer for me trust electronic bill paying. Those who know me, know how technologically illiterate I really was.
Flash forward to today and I’ve got email going, I pay bills online, I buy yarn online, I have a blog and a MySpace, accounts on multiple photo-hosting sites, and I feel like I’m gonna die without my digital camera. I’ve come a long way, baby!
In the interest of not having a photo-less post, I give you:
Stash Pics!

Nope, that’s not all of it. Not by a long shot. But that’s enough for now.

Shawl Update Friday, Mar 2 2007
Trudging along nicely. It’s up to 24″ long, and my best guess is that it’s about 44″ wide at this point. And that’s with exactly half of the yarn used up. Woo Hoo. (!)

The other day Ria asked: “Good to see the yarn came out nicely dyed! What’s that stitch pattern called, by the way, and where can I get my hands on it?”
Thank you very much! The yarn smells nice, too. The pattern I’m using is here. But mine doesn’t really look much like the pattern pic. I printed it out a long time ago and started to make it, but decided I didn’t like it. Homespun has it’s place in the world, but this ain’t it! My shawl is done in thinner worsted weight wool (I bought “winter white” and dyed it myself), on size 10 needles. Much better stitch definition, I think.

Got a few things wrapped up today.
A garter for my cousin who’s getting married next weekend:

A hat for Bobby:

That’s not Bobby in the picture. That’s my 5 year old budding metal-head.

And I finally found the right ribbon to finish off my get Stitchy Green Hat-along hat:

Tomorrow…an update on the Alco-shawl.
