Vitus Night Sunday, Apr 12 2009

Watching St. Vitus play NOLA!

Addendum: So, yeah. Apparently, I wasn’t aware of just how big of a deal these guys are.  Shame on me and the rock I live under…   Bwahahahahaha!

It turned out to be a pretty cool night, though. Lots of NOLA Underground people turned up. There are pics floating around somewhere. Of course, I don’t have any, but they are out there!

The best part of the show (IMO)? A Hanging! I love that band, and not just because I have the hots for Alix and I’ve known Scott forever. They’re really, really good!

Bummed and Lonely Saturday, Mar 28 2009

Trying to cheer myself with a ‘That 70’s Show’ marathon. Maybe I should add tequila?

I suck… Saturday, May 17 2008

…at being a wife. No, really. I took a test! http://www.shipbrook.com/maritaltest/

You earned a total of 61 demerits and 47 merits, resulting in an overall score of -14.
This classifies you as a very poor wife – FAILURE! (At least by 1930s standards.)

My husband, on the other hand, got stellar results. Back off bee-yotches, he’s all mine!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FYI: My A/C did get fixed promptly. It’s now nice and cool in my home (praise jeebus). I am, right this moment, sitting in front of the computer enjoying a cup full of tequila-soaked gummi bears in air-conditioned comfort. Yay!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I do, solemnly swear, that one of these days I am going to knit something again!

Until next time,

Some Badnessess Thursday, May 8 2008

Screw me for being positive! That’ll teach me to have a good Tuesday. Frakking universe turned around and bit me in the ass.

Wednesday my A/C broke, and that’s hideous when the temps outside are creeping up towards 90 degrees. The A/C guy will be here tomorrow morning, but for right now it’s fucking hot in my house and all five of us are pissy and miserable.

Earlier this evening all 3 kids got into a fight outside. WITH SWORDS! The stupid plastic swords have been thrown in the trash and they’ve been told that if they catch any more at parades they may as well turn to the nearest kid and give it away. It won’t be allowed in this house. They’ve also been told not to bring any more home from dollar stores. They’ve been given enough warnings about those damn swords. Done, over, finished, no more toy swords. (Hear that, Grandparents?)

So they all got sent to their rooms, punished and pissy and hot. The little one wouldn’t stop screaming, making the other 2 even angrier. The older 2 were yelling back and forth across the hall at each other about who started what and whose fault it all was. I had to just pull back and laugh at them, otherwise I was going to cry.

Eventually they grumbled themselves out and went to sleep, but we’re all still hot. Hopefully the A/C problem is an easy fix and not something that requires waiting for parts. The high temp tomorrow is supposed to be 90. Ick.

So, in my moment of “If I don’t laugh at my children’s misery I’m going to cry” I turned to my on-line group of Mom friends and they talked me down. Wonderful bunch, they are. They gave me several amazing suggestions on how to consume alcohol without getting overly sweaty due to my lack of A/C. I never would have though of mixing my tequila with my kids popsicles! Brilliant! Or doing shots in a nice cool bathtub. Again, Brilliant! And did you know that Gummy candies absorb alcohol? Apparently you can soak ‘em overnight and it’s easier than making jell-o shots. Amazing. I’m so buying gummy bears next time I go to the store.

Until next time,

Too busy…can’t blog… Tuesday, Sep 18 2007

There have been so many “big deals” happening lately, I haven’t had time to chronicle them. Details later, I swear. For now, the quick list:

*15th Wedding Anniversary (Very Important)

*Bamboo yarn (yummmm)

*Completed socks (Yay!)

*New Knitting Tattoo (Wahooooooooo!)

*Eyehategod show where many out-of-towners were met. (too fun for words)

*Delivered completed hats (finally)

*The Gathering (should happen more frequently)

*Met the Yarn Harlot! (Squeeee!)

There’s probably more, but I now have to go catch up on the mundane stuff (like the stupid laundry) so that my house doesn’t implode.

Until next time,

Ummm, a bunch of stuff all at once. Monday, Apr 16 2007

The Fishy Crochet (GASP!) Bathmat is coming along. Here are some of the squares being modeled by my favorite tree:

There are more squares now, and they have been sewn together. I’m trying to get the border crocheted on the dang thing. Then I have the fishies to make. I think I’m not cut out to crochet on a regular basis. I can say I’ve tried it, and I will probably not have any objections to putting crochet borders onto some of my knits, but it’s just not for me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finished up my Dream Swatch Wrap (warning: that’s a pdf) this morning. Love this pattern. Super-easy and really cute. I used the leftover Koigu from my Get Stitchy Green hat-along hat. I think the greens look pretty cute with the purple-y hair!
I took it with me to the French Quarter Fest yesterday. I got sit on the bank of the Mississippi River, in the warm sun, with the cool breeze blowing, with daquiris by my side, listening to Trombone Shorty and Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes, and knitting. Perfect way to spend an afternoon! Knitter’s paradise, I tell ya.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bought some new yarn yesterday. Yay! Hubby was feeling generous I guess. Not only did he not argue when I wanted to buy more yarn than I needed right then, he encouraged it. He’s so good to me.

Got some more Koigu for my friend’s birthday hat.

And some laceweight wool for no reason at all. I think the colors reminded me of Mardi Gras.

There were half-a-dozen other things I wanted to post about, but I can’t think of them right now. Dang-it. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.

Until next time,

Happy (Late) St. Patrick’s Day! Monday, Mar 19 2007

I was supposed to post this on Saturday. I accidently got drunk and couldn’t do it. Better late than never, right? Here’s a picture of my beautiful baby girl riding in the St. Patrick’s Day parade in St. Bernard Parish.

In knitting news: The St. Pat’s Day shawl got finished on time. It got washed and blocked, and worn out on Saturday. It came home Sunday morning smelling like bar and ick. So, I washed it again and decided to over-dye it while it was wet. It’s re-blocking now. In the garage. Ignore the lawnmower wheels at the top of the picture. It’s the only place I know the cats won’t sleep on it.

And this is why it smelled so funky…

First was SKab:

Then Suplecs:

Then Alabama Thunderpussy:

But before any of that happened, an old friend of ours got married to a very beautiful woman. Congratulations, and may your new family have a lifetime of happiness.

Until next time,

The Alco-shawl Monday, Feb 26 2007

I figure that’s a good name since I’ll surely be consuming alcohol while wearing this shawl. It’s being made to wear to a wedding on St. Patrick’s Day (and hopefully a show afterward) and it’s quickly becoming tedious. This always happens to me. Once the repeats start taking more than 30 or 40 minutes, I get…well…twitchy. We’re up to an hour and 10 per repeat now. I have to force myself to do one a day. I figure if it’s out here on display for all the world to gawk at its incompleteness, maybe I’ll be inspired shamed into finishing it.

Here goes:

There’s actually a few more repeats now than there were when the pic was taken.

Close-up of the stitch pattern:

And the pic that shows the color a lot more accurately:

That’s my green Kool-Aid yarn! Oh Yeah!
