Shawl Update

Trudging along nicely. It’s up to 24″ long, and my best guess is that it’s about 44″ wide at this point. And that’s with exactly half of the yarn used up. Woo Hoo. (!)

The other day Ria asked: “Good to see the yarn came out nicely dyed! What’s that stitch pattern called, by the way, and where can I get my hands on it?”

Thank you very much! The yarn smells nice, too. The pattern I’m using is here. But mine doesn’t really look much like the pattern pic. I printed it out a long time ago and started to make it, but decided I didn’t like it. Homespun has it’s place in the world, but this ain’t it! My shawl is done in thinner worsted weight wool (I bought “winter white” and dyed it myself), on size 10 needles. Much better stitch definition, I think.

The Alco-shawl

I figure that’s a good name since I’ll surely be consuming alcohol while wearing this shawl. It’s being made to wear to a wedding on St. Patrick’s Day (and hopefully a show afterward) and it’s quickly becoming tedious. This always happens to me. Once the repeats start taking more than 30 or 40 minutes, I get…well…twitchy. We’re up to an hour and 10 per repeat now. I have to force myself to do one a day. I figure if it’s out here on display for all the world to gawk at its incompleteness, maybe I’ll be ~~inspired~~ shamed into finishing it.

Green Day

Ha!Ha! Not the band, the YARN! I got me some more naked wool yarn. Yeah! I’m dying it green in preparation for St. Patty’s Day. I have a wedding to attend that day, and I feel like I need a new green shawl for the occasion. I give you…green yarn in a pot.

Also in preparation for St. Patty’s Day, Get Stitchy! is hosting a green hat-along. We’re all making green hats during the month of February, which we will sport in our avatars during the month of March. Pretty spiffy, I think. I’m using this yarn…

It’s 2 hanks of some beautiful Koigu that my terrific husband brought home one day just because. He said that I was required to make something for myself with it. That’s an offer I can’t refuse. Oh, you see all that frilly stuff in the pic? The colored ribbons and paper hearts? When you buy yarn at The Quarter Stitch, they individually wrap your pretty new hanks of yarn in colored tissue paper, add in some frilly things, put it all into a clear cellophane bag (so you can see all the prettiness) and top it all off with some ribbon curls cascading down the side of your new little treasure. I always want to rush home from there to unwrap my presents! And then I want to wrap it up again, because it looks so nice sitting there in the stash all gussied up like that.
